As Royal Mail have upped their prices again, as one tends to expect on the first of April each year we have debated seriously what best to do for our customers.
Our options were:
1 - To put up our prices by 7% to swallow the increased RM prices
2 - Seek an alternative
Our dilemma also was not to reduce our service excellence and in the last year of using Royal Mail only one parcel has been lost out of the very many that we have sent . The result of that was I was able to send our customer a replacement and Royal Mail refunded us our losses. So for service Royal Mail are hard to beat.
We have however settled on an alternative and kept our prices low... We have also been using the myHermes parcel service for the last year and no parcels have gone missing. Whilst this may be a slightly slower service than using Royal Mail first class it will benefit our customers in at least 5 ways
- Fully tracked service
- Ensured up to £50
- Cheaper than Royal Mail
- You can select a safe place for your parcel to be left, eg with a neighbour or in the greenhouse etc
- Delivery time scale - 2 - 4 days
All parcels over 2 kilos were already sent via MyHermes and larger still parcels will still be sent via City Link.
We also have good news for customers in Northern Ireland, and The UK islands and highlands as these services cover your areas as well, please take into consideration slightly longer delivery time scales though.
For the Channel Islands we will still use Royal Mail, however please please email us for a delivery quote just in case we can obtain better prices for you.
